The laidback allure of the Crane Private Residences
by Natasha Simpson

The change in the air was evident as I entered the parish of St. Phillip. As I took the corner just before “The Crane” I was hit by the sea breeze, and the salty smell in the air that wafted through my car. Moments later I was politely greeted by a stately looking guard at the classically elegant gates of “The Crane”. I was ushered through the imposing gates and then continued along a road enveloped on both sides by beautifully manicured gardens alive with tropical plants and unique sculptures by Enzo Plazotta dotting the way.

Founded in 1887 “The Crane” is the oldest hotel in the Caribbean. Initially it was just an 18-room hotel, but it has always been renowned for its luxury, rugged natural beauty and world-class beach.  It has been 128 years since its inception; but the centuries old heritage was evident as I meandered along the coral stone paths surrounded by lush gardens and stared in awe at the turrets, terraced balconies and architectural details of the modern day Crane.

In recent times the property has been at the forefront of luxury resort living, effortlessly combining incomparable living spaces with an unmatched lifestyle. As I sat at L’Azure gazing out over the powdery white sand beach and a sea of never-ending blues it became evident why TV’s Lifestyle’s of the Rich and Famous declared Crane Beach “One of the 10 best beaches in the world”. There is a certain allure to “The Crane” and as I sat there I tried to envision what it would be like to wake up every day with such beauty surrounding me.

So how have things changed? In 1988 Paul Doyle purchased the original 18-room hotel and its surrounding forty acres and went to work to expand and further elevate the already internationally recognized resort. By the 100 year mark the hotel had experienced incredible changes. Today “The Crane” is a luxury resort community with 252 rooms and over 28 buildings. These include four restaurants; including the world famous Zen Restaurant, two bars, spectacular cascading pools, a day spa, flood-lit tennis courts, fitness facilities, acres of landscaped grounds, a retail shopping village which includes an art gallery, bakery and an ice cream parlor. Their world-class amenities and services truly reflect the essence of island living.

Fall 2014 sees the launch of an exciting new chapter for “The Crane”, the introduction of a separate luxury private gated community within the resort. Uniquely positioned as a private residential development; the master-planned residences will consist of two and three bedroom apartments ranging from 1,880 sq ft on five acres of landscaped gardens. Each building will make an impressive statement with clean architectural lines complimenting the distinctly Barbadian coral stone finish on the lower walls. Ground floor properties will boast large private swimming pools, while penthouse units will benefit from roof top pools on terraces that command breathtaking ocean views. Designed for long-term living, each apartment comes complete with its own underground garage from which residents will take one of two elevators directly to their own residence foyer.

Bright and expansive, each residence features large kitchens complete with granite counter tops; spacious private patios perfect for dining, lounging and entertaining, as well as generously scaled natural stone bathrooms with large soaker tubs and glass showers. Residents will awaken to a dream view, as the grand master bedrooms face the same dramatic views as the living spaces, while the secondary bedrooms welcome in the lush tropical internal gardens.

Crane Private Residences buyers will also enjoy peace of mind when it comes to security. Each property comes complete with personally encoded alarm systems, video entry phone, closed-circuit security cameras and an emergency response fob to contact security personal from the garage.

Monthly fees, structured much like traditional condominium fees, benefit from “The Crane’s” economies of scale and its unique vertically integrated approach to property management. A robust and well-managed rental management program is also available to purchasers should they wish to avail themselves of this service.

Prices for a two-bedroom property start from$721,000 USD and prices for a three-bedroom property start from $806,000 with an average price of $350.00/Sq ft. Partial or complete furniture packages are also available which include interior furniture, patio furniture, home and kitchenware, linen and artwork.

The list of benefits to living at the Crane Private Residences is lengthy and impressive but what is perhaps most appealing in my opinion is the unparalleled lifestyle element which owners will enjoy. Owners at the Crane Private Residences will immediately become part of the luxury resort community with access to world-class amenities and services, the world-famous and dramatic Crane beach serving as their back yard. I imagine lazy days spent lounging by the stunning cascading pools, unwinding at the spa and sipping cappuccinos. For the more active individuals, tennis games and swims in the ocean to start the day. The options continue into the evening with a choice of bars and restaurants to experience.

As I finish this piece I am taken back to my afternoon at L’Azure. I knew I had stayed too long when the classical music from the piano and the ocean breezes were lulling me to sleep while the loungers around the pool beckoned me to lie down. I was quick to embrace “The Crane” lifestyle and the whole experience was truly a memorable one. The legacy, lifestyle and casual luxury are unmatched and the allure is like no other. The introduction of the Crane Private Residences is an exciting opportunity for individuals to experience this on a daily basis. The impeccably designed buildings uniquely positioned within the resort offer an exceptional chance for those to indulge in the history, lifestyle, amenities, rustic natural beauty and world-class beach that The Crane has to offer.
